THE BLACKOUT ULTIMATUM
[Xprmntl Residency Program]
5 Cross-disciplinary Artists Pairs. 3 Days and Nights. 5 Tentworks.
The Blackout Ultimatum is an experimental residency program where 10 artists
from as many disciplines / practices will live and create together in pairs
while co-existing in a compressed urban setting.
Each artist pair is given a tent as a canvas to explore possibilities
of tiny spaces as alternative living areas, artworks or interactive experiences.
However, time to create was limited to 72 hours to reflect the crunch of time in a metropolis.
The 5 tentworks created at the residency will be taken back
into the public space as a moving exhibition.

SONIC TENT by ALEC SCHACHNER
Alec designed his tent as an aurally reactive space. A playful area where every inch is immersed in touch-based interactivity resulting in a circus of sound. Also works as a reactive performance space. And, sensitive enough to be played just by wind!

BLACKOUT SET by DIYA SARKER & SUKRITI TYAGI
In a big city, it is difficult to find space to live, let alone, the liberty of having a working studio. Diya and Sukriti combined their skills of graphic design and film to produce 2 video pieces using the tent as their production studio.
Dhanya and Gene tore apart their tent using its core components to create a live and interactive video installation. Using malleable pipes from the tent as the structure of their piece, it can be morphed into infinite shapes.
Ami is a leading mixologist and flair bartender, Arsh is extremely passionate about food experiments. Together, they set up a pop-up restaurant and bar serving 16 food and drinks experiments in their tent during the residency.
Joyeeta and Sachin combined their practices of fashion design and street art to create an installation using local fabric, light and projections of a custom video they created in residency.
