Alejandro Komori, a Mexican painter and choreographer was our first artist in the opening edition of 12x12 in Kalga. The artist spent a month in the village and created a series of cut-out portraits as well as landscape paintings.  ​

KYTA 2019 was the 5th edition of the group residencies in Kalga. During its Open Village Showcase, we initiated Kalga Day - a celebration of all the people from the village and those who have made it their home away from home.

The 4th edition of KYTA hosted 17 artists from the 3 participating countries. This was the first year we introduced the Open Village Showcase as a closing celebration in Kalga at the end of the program. 

In this edition, we began to build the art collection for Kalga and our first facility including a handmade kiln and studio for clay. The artists came from India, Germany, Slovakia, Italy, South Africa and USA.

"How to make a feature film with a non-feature film approach" - the resident artists were discouraged to bring any pre-conceived ideas and produce a minimum of 60 mins of new material. 

The opening edition featured 10 artists from distinguishably varied practices and experimental approaches to produce a unified artistic result within one month in residency.
